Yep...I'm going to do it. I am going to reveal the
Kitty KAT of mine you do not know. Why? Because I want to. She has kept her true light
hidden. Strange I should use THAT word, since it also happens to be the title of the first in her
Hekate's Web Series.
But I'm not here to promo her books...although they may accidentally slip in...what can I say, my subconscious is still a
mom and how do you yell at the mom chip inside you? You don't! So let's just move on.
Kat...have I told you guys that she's a genius? People see her with her helmet on, (which is protection for that brilliant mind against the harm she can sustain during a seizure,) give her a wide berth and cross their fingers like she's contagious or some demon allowed to run amok among them. They should be that lucky.
Every book she has ever read she remembers. All you or I would have to do is say..."Kat, do you remember
AMETHYST. Let me explain. She read this book when she was about
sixteen...maybe a little younger. She stayed up all night reading it...okay...I admit it was on a school night, and yes, she was too tired to go to school the next day, so I gave her the day off to sleep. She's 37 now. 21 years later but all I have to do is ask her and she can tell me the entire tale.
JD Robb writes the
IN DEATH series, and Kat has read every one of them. We've had conversations, she and I and she can tell you exactly what happened and name the book it happened in ALL from her incredible memory!
The same with NJ Walters, especially her
Tapestry Series, that Kat loves so much Ms. Walters sent her autographed print copies. NJ, trust me, she remembers EVERY detail! In many ways Kat thinks of NJ as her mentor, because it was NJ that urged her to start writing.
Thank you, NJ.
Christine Feehan
has so many series even though I've read them, I can't remember what happened to whom it which book. Kat can, and she knows whether it's from the Carpathian Vampire Sisters, The Ghostwalker Series, The Drake Sisters Series or from her Leopard Series.
She does the same with
Alyssa Day's Warriors of Poseidon Series,
Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark Series,
Lyndsay Sand's Argeneau Series,
Lora Leigh's Breed Series, and on and on.
She blames me...See I got her started. By the time she was 12, she was bored with the typical books available for her age, so I let dig into my many, many bags of books secured beneath my bed.
As an elective in high school, she took and mastered
speed reading. She tested faster than anyone else in her class or any of the classes before or after her.
When she'd go to school, she'd have at least three paperbacks in her purse because she reads so fast.
Now there were teachers who decided they didn't like the books she was reading and one even went so far as to take her purse pull out her books and humiliate her before her class.
Do you all want to know what I did when she came home and told me?
Do you? It wasn't pretty...for that teacher. So, are you sure you want to know?
Okay, okay. I'll tell you. I suppose I should start by telling you I was well known in that school. If I walked into the building the principal, vice principal and the teachers cringed. When/if I walked by without turning into their door, they breathed a sigh of relief.
Kat had told me what time the class with that teacher would be the next day. Dressed in tight jeans,
I was a size four back then, and a bright red shirt...my hair loose and wavy, I marched down that hall, knocked on the door...the teacher opened the door, and in a voice that would carry, (I know, I know...you're all thinking..."she's got a little girl voice' how could it carry?" Remember, by this time I was substitute teaching and my voice when I want it to, can carry. It carried.)
Back to the story. Where was I...lets' just start with me...knocking on the door. He came to the door opened it, and stood in the opening his hand gripping the knob. I told him "I want to talk with you." He tried to maneuver me out into the hall so he could close the door and the students would not hear...but I wasn't having any of that. He'd embarrassed my child in front to the class, he was going to get his dressing down by me, so the class could hear.
I lambasted him.
I told him he was in violation of Kat's Constitutional rights by demanding she turn her purse over to him so he could declare her reading material inappropriate. I informed him he has no right to determine what my daughter's
reading material should or should NOT be...that was my job and if he ever pulled a stunt like that again, I would take it to the
State's Department of Education and if need be, higher.
I let him know he is to teach his subject only. I also informed him I would not hesitate to bring charges against him if I ever heard that he was violating any student's rights again. Once I was certain he was shaking all over, I added, "I will not report you the principal or the Superintendent this time, but I won't stop there is there's a next time." I gave him one last look of disgust up and down the length of him, turned and walked away.
Kat told me when she got home it took that teacher more than a few minutes to stop his shaking enough to teach, and her classmates were cheering what I did. I guess not many parents would do what I did...
but you do NOT mess with my kids. I raised these kids, my son and daughter since they were 9 and 7, alone. NO ONE got away with unjustly messing with my kids!
Moving on...Kat's mind is fast.
School bored her, so I found a program that let her learn at her own pace. She finished four years of high school in six months, graduated, took a semester of college...was just as bored, so became a corporate auditor...until her Grand Mal Seizures started.
The medication she was forced to take, made her
loopy, almost a zombie...and you can't deal with numbers when you mind is swimming in an ocean of drug induced mushiness.
So now she's a best selling, award winning author.
And that's MY Kitty Kat, so many things rolled into one, and all of them...AMAZING!
Love you Kat. I am so proud and awed by you.
